COMUN and the first debate!

Evidence of Meeting

Today, we debated on the legalization of abortion and I was chairing. Some very intersting points were brought forwards by countries like France, the UK, and the USA. This debate was fruitful and successful. As the chair, I had the responsibility to correct the delegates where they were wrong and help them improve their speaker’s list speeches. The speech is meant to be a minute long after which the delegate is open to questions from other delegates. This process helps all of us become aware of the global issues around the world regardless of the current situation. I believe that it is her body, her choice. Many countries believe that it is a crime against humanity but I think the final call should be with the woman herself and not the govt. because if the woman isn’t comfortable or ready, she has the right to take a decision she sees fit. This was an interesting topic to debate on and was truly informing. Even though, this was the first time for many delegates, all of them adapted very quickly and did an amazing job. Next time, we will be discussing the Black Lives Matter movement and racism which comes under the General Assembly 3 mandate. That too will be intersting and I am looking forward to the first EXCO meeting for COMUN 2021 tomorrow after school! This experience not only builds my leadership skills but it also helps me develop my knowledge of global issues. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this were LO3, LO4, LO5, LO6 & LO7. Talking about LO7, the reason why this is involved is that when we are working collaboratively concerning such a sensitive topic, we need to be neutral and ethical. we need to realize the impacts of what we do and the things we mention during the debate, which have an impact on our thought process regarding the topic.
