COMUN Practice Debate One

In the past few months, I and my COMUN EXCO have been working towards this year’s conference. The first Practice Debate happened on 6th February 2022 where the delegates were online and the EXCO and admins were present physically at the OSC campus.

There were a lot of logistical details that were taken care of for this for example:

  • everyone doing a RAT/PCR test (LO6)
  • everyone wearing masks
  • printing EXCO t-shirts for all members and Dr. Lundin
  • organizing zoom meetings, co-ordinating between three rooms to avoid technical issues
  • working with the tech team
  • supervising IPC

It was a great responsibility for me as Secretary-General to maintain the standard of COMUN this year as well. I had to reach by 7:30 am and stay until 5:30 pm until everything was in order.(LO4)

We faced many technical issues such as breakout rooms not being available, wifi not connecting, constant sanitization, and many more. But I and my secretariat handled those issues calmly. What I learned from this was that my strength does not lie in delegating responsibilities. I still need to let go of some control but something that is a strength for me is working with my Secretariat and efficiently communicating. (LO1, LO2, LO5)

Another issue was dealing with different schools, their demands, their requests which were at times really difficult but Dr.Lundin really helped with that. I had to approach Faculty advisors in a calm manner and that made me practice my communication skills as well as develop a calm method of talking. (LO7)

We went into every committee and made sure that the delegates were comfortable. I briefed the group twice with admins and EXCO separately. (LO7)

Organizing this event took a lot of planning and many meetings with just the secretariat and the entire EXCO. (LO4, LO5, LO3)Here are a few snapshots from it:
