Practice debate 2
The second practice debate was a better experience than the first PD. This was because we were more organized and on time. There were fruitful discussions and many of them led to delegates debating for hours on end. One of them was the Earth Mineral trade in the Fourth General Assembly. [LO6 and LO7].
There was a time that I needed to problem solve as Secretary General. My Under Secretary General had gone into the Futuristic Security Council and expressed her concern for delegates not engaing in commmittee quite bluntly. This led to a delegate complaining to her faculty advisor about how the USG was harsh towards her. The faculty advisor complained to me and I had to start our procedure of inquiry. [LO7]
I talked to the two chairs of FSC, their admins, Saesha who was with the USG and Dr. Lundin. [LO5]None of them agreed to the allegation that was made towards the misconduct. I took over the committee of FSC and spoke to the delegates myself without the chairs being present. This helped me understand their perspective with no bias. [LO7].
They all agreed taht it was because of her passion towards the conference and nothing more than a misunderstanding. The delegate of Venezuela who had complained orginally wanted to speak to me in a breakout room. After speaking to her separately, we concluded that it was a misunderstanding. She then spoke to her faculty advisor and the matter was resolved. [LO2, LO5, LO7]
Besides this event, PD2 was a eunanamous success and we all couldn’t wait for conference!
