Sanya’s CAS Goals

CAS Goals Even though we are in a strange situation during this time of change and chaos in the world, we are still dedicated to our CAS goals. This will be an interesting and engaging journey and we can do as much as we can from home. There are many amazing and interesting ways we can engage with the world and our CAS goals and give our creative sides a chance to explore all aspects of CAS! Creativity:

  •  I have several Cas Creativity goals for the IB DP program. I am focusing on mainly 4 creativities that are, COMUN 2021 and 2022, The Yearbook club, The advocate: The literary Magazine, The art club, and Salsa Ballroom Dance classes.  All of these activities have a lot of meaning to me and I have been a part of these since 9th grade. These activities explore creativity and CAS learning outcomes.
  • COMUN 2021 & 2022:COMUN which stands for Colombo Model United Nations, in general, is a platform for people all over Sri Lanka to debate over real-world issues and understand what the United Nations is all about. I’ve been debating for 4 years now. I also had the privilege to be a part of the EXCO last year, which was a great leadership experience. Being a chair for GA1, really showed me what I can improve on as a leader and what I can carry on doing as a part of the EXCO. I have taken a different role this year, I am a part of the secretariat now and I am the Head of Operations. This will help me see COMUN from a logistical aspect whilst leading the organizing and planning of the conference. This will be a new and exciting experience and this will help me achieve my ultimate goal of becoming the SG of COMUN 2022. I have always wanted to lead a conference and being the Secretary-General of one would mean

a great deal to me. There are several learning outcomes related to COMUN which are LO6, LO2, LO1, LO3, LO5, LO4 & LO7. It basically involves all learning outcomes because we learn to grow, develop, work collaboratively, Build and plan a CAS experience (i.e the final conference), discussing globally significant issues & as exco members our choices based on ethics really matter a lot. Our theme this year is Informed Action in times of crisis which is where LO7 is very significant because the decisions we make as young learners impact our MUN community and helps us become better decision-makers whilst keeping the morality of our decisions in check.

  • Yearbook: I’ve been doing yearbook for 2 years now and it is great for creativity because we brainstorm a lot from page ideas to themes to fonts to use. I want to carry on with it because it will be a good platform to get better at editing and using Photoshop and InDesign. I’ve always wanted to better my skills with that which is why I am continuing with the yearbook this year and plan on doing the same for next year as well. My ultimate goal would be able to lead Yearbook and also become better at using the software for editing. I will be able to apply this knowledge to the Advocate as well. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this activity are: LO2, LO1, LO3, & LO4.
  • The Advocate: I have been a part of The Advocate for 2 years now as well and I know that I want to carry on with it for the DP as well because it is not only useful in L&L but also my yearbook skills are applicable here. The advocate helps me develop my literary skills and also help me develop my editing skills. I also have to check and read the entries before adding them to the Magazine and I believe that to be an integral part of LO7. I want to carry on with this activity and develop my organizational and literary skills. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this activity are LO2, LO1, LO3, LO4 & LO7.
  • Salsa Ballroom Classes: I have been dancing since 2010 and I have tried many forms but this is new for me. Doing Salsa is not only fun but it is therapeutic for me as a dancer to be able to express myself. Dancing is a form of art hence, it is creative. It will help me take on a challenge and develop my strategic skills because in this class I will be doing around 6 different dance-forms which is why it will be interesting to see how well I engage with them and how well I do as a dancer. I want to explore dance-classes around Sri Lanka but right now This dance class is a good start and a good place to engage with different dance forms. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this activity are LO2, LO1, LO3, & LO4.
  • Lockdown and DLP: I have many ways of being creative during these tough times and they are as follows: Henna art, cooking for the family, photography, arts, and decorating my room. All of these will help me be creative even when I am at home and I am beyond excited to get started with them.

Activity:

    • Salsa Ballroom Classes: I have been dancing since 2010 and I have tried many forms but this is new for me. Doing Salsa is not only fun but it is therapeutic for me as a dancer to be able to express myself. Dancing is a form of activity as well which is why it will be interesting to have an activity to do in order to stay fit. My ultimate goal here is to maintain my low-body strength because as a dancer it is very important to have a fitness regime for the lower body.
      • Plan B: My plan B, in case of Covid-19 lockdown, is to develop a fitness routine at home that covers all the necessary parts of being able to stay fit even when at home. To be able to do this, I will have another post explaining my fitness routine and I will be regularly updating that as well. My goals are to do at least 30-min long walks, develop more lower-body strength with the help of The Nike Fitness App. I will regularly blog about this to show commitment. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this activity are: LO2, LO1, LO3, & LO4 + LO5 during F2F ballroom classes.
      • I also plan on doing Yoga and Dance fitness through youtube so that I can stay fit during these times and develop the strength to be a better Dancer and that will be measured by many aspects such as lower body and core strength, agility, and energy levels.

Service:

  • SOS VILLAGE: I am currently the service leader of SOS village. As the service leader, I definitely want to improve my leadership skills but also be a better planner. I do believe that I lack organizational skills which is why by engaging in this activity I will be able to help and organize the service plans better. I will develop communication skills and improve my leadership skills. The CAS learning outcomes involved are LO6, LO2, LO1, LO3, LO5, LO4 & LO7. It basically involves all learning outcomes because we learn to grow, develop, work collaboratively, Build and plan a CAS experience (i.e the service Thursdays ), discussing globally significant issues & as service members our choices based on ethics really matter a lot because we engage with kids who have been through trauma and suffering which is why it is important for us to be ethical and informed in all aspects of the service. Since we are carrying this on DLP, this will be my way of contributing to society in times of crisis.
  • Helping around the house and cooking! will be a part of my DLP service from home.
