COMUN & Guitar
This year, I decided to do COMUN as my creativity element, this is my first year taking part in COMUN, reason why I decided to choose COMUN as my source of creativity is because I thought that it would be a good way of me stepping out of my comfort zone as I don’t particularly enjoy presenting or public speaking. I often get nervous when speaking to a large crowd of people, I thought that COMUN would be a good and effective way for me to build onto those skills. My goal for the end of the year is that through COMUN I will be able to effectively present and get over the nerves I get when I do public speaking. Another creativity aspect that I hope to grow and expand on is guitar, I had taken guitar lessons in 2013 however I have not take any lessons since then. The reason that I want to learn how to play the guitar is because I enjoy music and I often use it as a way to relax and release some of my stress, I feel that learning how to play the guitar will be a good way for me to unwind. My goal for the end of this year is to get back into the guitar, and hopefully be able to play multiple songs that are at a fairly complex level.
Badminton, Basketball, Gym
This year, I decided that I’m going to try out for more sports that the school offers, and I hopefully plan on going to one or maybe two SAISA’s. I want to get involved with more sports this year as it’s a key aspect of staying stable and healthy. This year I will be trying to get into the school badminton team, I have played badminton before and I really enjoyed it, and found it as an effective way of staying active and stable. In addition, I also want to try and get onto the school’s basketball team this year, I played on the basketball teams of some of my previous schools and I found it to be a good experience. I do regret not taking part in any of the school sports last year and I don’t want to make the same mistakes. I feel that through participating in these sports I will be able to expand on my communication skills and cooperative skills. I also want to set a goal for myself, which is getting more active and losing weight. Recently I have learned the importance of staying active and being stable in life, in order to perform at your personal best. There are gaps in-between the year there are gaps where we have no sports available such as breaks, to make efficient use of this time, I want to make more of an effort to go to the gym. I plan on going to the gym at least three times a week so that I can maintain an active and stable lifestyle.
Housing & Habitat
Service is an important part of education as it helps us expand our perspective of the world through experiences that we gather by interacting with our community and the less fortunate. I am in the Housing & Habitat service group, which focuses on helping schools by providing them with tables and chairs. We also host an annual fundraiser called the Home Run, we do this to help get the money that we need for supplies to build the tables and chairs. In addition, we also collaborate with the Janoda Foundation with our week without walls micro-trip, were we go to the foundation site in Hambantota and teach the kindergarteners. This year we plan on making them a wooden railway track for them to play with. This year will be my second year in Housing & Habitat, with this being my second year I am aiming for the role of service leader for DP2, the reason that I what to be service leader is that I feel that I can contribute new ideas for our service, such as adding an additional home run for the other SAISA seasons or adding a Housing & Habitat merchandise line like making t-shirts, bands, bandana’s and water bottles.
