“Eating is a necessity but cooking is an art”

In my opinion, my love and passion for cooking has been passed down to me from my grandmother, whom I think was a culinary expert, because every time she goes into the kitchen and moves her hands around marinating and preparing the most delicious traditional Sri Lankan recipes, the entire neighbourhood would be filled with the most mouth-watering and spicy aromas you could ever think of. As a child I have always wanted to be like my grandmother, and it was she who told me to chase my dreams and to always follow my heart.

With this love for cooking, and also with a growing interest in making, editing, and publishing videos on online platforms like YouTube, I decided to make one of many mouthwatering Sri Lankan desserts, and publish the recipe on YouTube, so that I could spread the food culture of my country to people around the world. Sri Lanka, although, an Island nation has a vibrant and rich history, and many food recipes have been passed down through many generations, with each generation adding to enhance the taste of each recipe. Having been introduced to this island nation of Ceylon by the British colonizers, The chocolate biscuit pudding has been modified and evolved through many years to this modern-day chocolatey, scrumptious and famous piece of food art that is sure to leave anyone who tries it utterly speechless.

The YouTube video titled “Une recette épique qui ravira vos papilles| Le gâteau aux biscuits au chocolat| recette Sri Lankaise”, which roughly translates into ” An amazing recipe that is sure to make your tastebuds sing with Joy| The chocolate biscuit pudding| Sri Lankan recipes”, features me making this indescribably delicious recipe with the help of my mother. I decided to arrange this recipe in the form of a video, because, in my opinion, it is the best way of spreading the food culture and recipes of one’s country on a global scale while keeping the viewers entertained as much as possible. Although it was quite difficult to simultaneously make the dessert and take the necessary taping to make the video, I managed to do this by keeping the phone on different stands and at times my mother helped me as well.  Moreover, making the recipe myself and arranging it in a video is sure to help the audience, as they too could easily follow the process and make it themselves. The fact that I made the video in French, helped me to improve my ability to better understand the language, and the research that went into it surely helped to widen my vocabulary, and it helped to better improve my pronunciation ability, which I think is an essential skill that needs to be polished when learning any new language.

The recipe is really simple, requiring only a few key ingredients, and it can be made by anyone who wishes to practice cooking. The basic ingredients which are needed are ” 250g de beurre 500g de Biscuits Marie. 4 œufs 500g de sucre glace. 3 cuillères à soupe de cacao en poudre. 50 g de noix de cajou (hachées). 4 tasses de lait.(un litre) 3 cuillères à café d’essence de vanille. 50g de chocolat noir râpé.” or “250g butter 500g of Biscuits Marie. 4 eggs 500g of icing sugar. 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder. 50 g cashews (chopped). 4 cups of milk (one litre) 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract. 50g of grated dark chocolate.” This recipe can easily be made and enjoyed by you and your family in under twenty minutes or so. So go on try to make it yourself

Cooking is truly love made visible.
