Dreams of a Midsummer’s Night

“That will call for some tears in the true performing of it” – Nick Bottom

This year in order to explore new ground in the area of arts, I decided to take part in this year’s Senior production. That and I was also forced into it by my one of my best friend’s Seth. Moving on, before anything began the cast were told what play we would be doing this year, and to my utmost regret I found out that we would be doing a Shakespearean play. to be honest, I was absolutely terrified, I told my self that I would mess up and that the entire play would fail because of me. However, after talking to my drama teacher Mrs. Jackson and a couple of my friend’s I decided to go for the auditions.

Originally the play Mrs. Jackson (the Producer) and Mr. Trea planned to create was the “Twelfth Night,” but because of low numbers boys we decided to do the play “A Midsummers Night’s Dream,”. After the auditions were held we were given our scripts and our respective roles for the play. I was cast as Nick Bottom. To be honest Nick Bottom was the character I wanted to play the least, the reason being the number of embarrassing parts I would have to act out. Anyways I went to rehearsals. When we started and we read through the script, I saw a large number of lines I have to say, which made very sick to the stomach. I was scared but I had faith going into this production.

we started our rehearsal and it was packed with a lot laughs, sweat, tears, inappropriate jokes regarding donkeys and the fairy queen, to put it all together it was a lot, and I mean A LOT of fun. However, rehearsals got very tense at times, but we pulled through it. Then the day came, the day of the production.

Production day was extremely scary. Me personally, I was petrified. I thought that I would mess up and forget all my lines, it just felt that everything would just crumble and fall. I was sick to my stomach. I was so scared, and the starting hour just kept coming closer and closer until it did. we all ran to the sides of the stage and we heard everyone talking as the came in and sat down. Then there was absolute silence until the infamous alarm clock sound went off and we all walked on stage.

after an hour and a half went by and the curtain call finished we knew that it was all over and we rejoiced. all in all this play broke me and molded into a new person, and in my opinion this was the best experience in my life
