OLIVER! – The Last one

“I’m reviewing the situation”- Fagin

So for this year’s OSC senior production, the drama facility has chosen to do the hit musical Oliver! by lionel Barts. WOW, I know right its Oliver, THE OLIVER. if you do not know the play Oliver, it about a boy named who is sold from the workhouse run by the Infamous Mr. Bumble and his cruel lover Widow Corney n London. After he is sold to a Mr. and Mrs. Sowerberry as a coffin follower, he then escapes the confides of them and eventually led him to wander around the streets of London where he met the devious criminal Fagin. Fagin and his boys then teach how to steal…. and yada yada yada. Anyways, this was my first musical as a highschool student, so I was really nervous. My auditions began in August and I decided to sing and act for the part of Fagin, but I got cast as Mr. Bumble. Wow, I made the main cast again, I was ecstatic, but I found that my co-star for Widow Corney would be my one of my closet friends Liana. I couldn’t be happier. After audition week, the first rehearsals began, we started with a read through and I saw that I had two songs which I would have to sing including one duet. this was a huge scare to me cause I have never sung on a theatrical stage and sang songs individually so I was nervous, very nervous, I was really unsure whether I could do it. When I performed Middsummers, I only had to memorize my lines and then act to the best of my ability. With Oliver I had to sing, dance, act and even dance as a chorus. This was A HUGE MOMENTUS TASK but after so many rehearsals and dance practices, we the OSC Oliver cast put on a fabulous show which even got us on the news.

The learning outcomes this address is the LO1 “Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth” and LO4 “Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences” this is because I had to go out of my comfort zone and sing and dance on a musical stage, then I also had to commit 100% due to the rigor of the play and my important role within the play
