HomeRun 2020

Well its that time again where all of OSC gather in one place to run 5km. As you all know by now,  its the annual housing and habitat HomeRun.  this year due to the presidential election the date for our HomeRun was pushed towards January 15th. With the date also came a new route. as per usual we also included the Care For Paws. The initial planning of the home run began in October, due to the election we knew that we had a little bit more time to execute HomeRun effectively. we initially started by mapping out the route of HomeRun.

This year’s route had the runners do a complete loop around the area of the OSC campus and eventually run around the lake in the surrounding area of Battarumulla. After we as a group went around the route we then went into the advertisement phase, we first started with the poster for HomeRun. Our group mate Matthew created the poster, afterwords with the assistance of GeckoNet we created our promotional video. After that, we got to the setup phase. After we came back from the Winter Break, Josh and I got to work by acquiring all the necessary equipment for the run, because the majority of our group was away on the Science field trips. This year we took all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety for all the people and animals that would be participating. So we had all the stops loaded with water for both dogs and runners. We also had treats placed for the doggos to eat if they are hungry.  all in all the run was excellent, Me, Josh, Emily, and the entire Housing and Habitat team put on a fabulous event and even sold some of the shirts we made.

the learning outcome this applies to is the 6th learning outcome. ” Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance”. We as a group want to aid local communities by providing necessary equipment such as Tables and Chairs in order to help locals have the facilities for comfortable education.
