Birthday Podcasts

It’s been more than a year since I’ve been able to see some of my closest friends who live in The Netherlands, but whilst these have been trying times, I still find ways to connect with my friends. Its become a new tradition to make “Birthday Podcasts” where we create a small podcast where we discuss, play songs, and share their favorite movies. Obviously, there’s a tint of irony in that statement, whilst most of the videos are more comedic rather than serious, but it’s more of a celebration of the person and how far they’ve come.

It’s a great way to stay connected with my friends, whilst this activity might not be as “Academic” as I might want it to be, I think this still fits in with my goals I set at the beginning of this CAS. I showed Initiative & planning by trying to find footage and creating movie posters etc, I also did a lot more editing for these videos, more so than usual.  With these videos, there were many moving parts that I had to incorporate into the video, it was a lot of new challenging skills I was trying to learn since before a lot of my editing skills have been primarily of more serious tones. I also learned to try and make more comedic edits to my work.

One of the main reason I’m including this in my CAS activities is that one of my main goals for service was to pursue my passion for film, and I’m doing a lot of film-based projects in art, but outside of class, I haven’t found much time to work on anything film based and creative. Service was also a place where I thought I’d be able to be creative and create film, but because of DLP and other factors, it’s been hard to really start making projects for service. So, just through these small weekend based projects, I’ve managed to find small ways of creating a film and also using new techniques and styles of editing.
