Gecko Net Part 2

Since my last TOK entry for Gecko Net, we’ve made a lot of progress, from making an end-of-the-year video for December break to making a documentary on OSC DLP life. Whilst doing a service like Gecko Net which is much more grounded and hands-on than other services, we’ve managed to make good use of our time over the last few weeks. As of now, the whole school has managed to return to campus, whilst this is great news for most of the student population, it means that service will be canceled for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I think this couldn’t have come at the worst time as it finally felt like we were returning to some sense of normality and routine in service. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t manage to get a lot of work planned for the future of our service, we plan to make more documentaries and also service introduction videos, the goal of these would be to promote each service group by interviewing service leaders, asking them what the future of the service looks like, etc. Since service has been canceled now, we still plan to go ahead and get footage for our first service group and try to edit as much of the video as we can.

The main reason I joined Gecko Net was to learn more about how to make videos and collaborate with others, its safe to say it’s been tough to try and achieve most of these goals. Whilst I haven’t been able to learn these new skills to the extent that I would have liked to, I still found ways to continue my passion for film and videography.

I’ve still managed to take some key takeaways from my short time in Gecko Net. One of the main ones would be Demonstrating skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. Whilst we only had one service group in school, I managed to spend the whole lesson collaborating with my peers and planning future Gecko Net videos, setting up meetings with service leaders, and organizing others in the group. I think that it was a good use of my time, I’m about halfway through the year, whilst it’s been a shame that we haven’t been able to make much progress for Gecko Net, I think I’ve still managed to have some key takeaways and build some confidence in sharing my ideas and communicating with teachers and peers.
