4th October 2019. My first UN Day in OSC, and it was quite an enjoyable experience.

The theme of this UN Day was Gender Equality, alongside celebrating different cultures. This time, I was a classroom leader, and that entailed talking to Grades 8-10 about the Gender Wage Gap in particular. Organizing the presentation and making sure everyone felt comfortable enough to contribute was a challenge, and gave me a taste of how much teachers have to plan. Co-ordinating with other leaders was difficult as well, as we were in different grade levels, and in a bunch of different extra-curricular activities. Furthermore, hearing everyone’s perspectives on the Gender Wage Gap and possible solutions was extremely interesting as well.

Just a bit of the food present at UN Day

As interesting as that the discussion and presentation on Gender Wage Gap was, the indisputable highlight of the day was all the amazing food of the different cultures represented in our school. The parents who brought the food to represent the different cultures had really put in a lot of time and effort, and it showed. It also gave me perspective into how diverse our school really is.
