During my time in OSC, I’ve found it hard to participate in school service activities, particularly because of constant lockdowns, DLP, etc. I also found it hard to find something I felt passionate about, but I actually managed to find a small group called “The Margin”. In short, The Margin aims to create a safe place for underrepresented groups in OSC. It also aims to create more awareness, giving more resources to the OSC community about some of these minority groups.
Whilst we’ve only had a few meetings in person, we’re making good progress for the future of the group. It’s a student-led program so that means there’s little moderation from other teachers, which comes with its own challenges but we’ve managed to organize a voting session for who going to be the VP, President, etc.
We’re still very much in the early stages of the group, but I’m happy to be a part of something that I feel more passionate about. As of right now, there aren’t many learning outcomes that I can evaluate since we just started the group, but after we’ve had 3 more group sessions I’ll be able to write more about my experiences with The Margin.
