Training with the SAISA Boys Volleyball 2019-2020

OSC team VS Local school

This volleyball season I decided to not travel to Oman, Muscat, however, I plan to continue participating in training sessions to maintain my volleyball skills and techniques. It was a tough decision to make as I really enjoy playing volleyball in the previous year. Due to this year being my final school year I feared that traveling would derail my learning as time-management is something I still need to work on. Hence, I made the decision to stay and support my fellow teammates from Colombo.

Training sessions were as normal, brutal, hard-working, sweaty, but still worth it. During training sessions, we practiced similar drills and exercises to last year. We made sure to maintain the fundamental bump, set, jump, and spike but we also practiced positioning, receiving and serving drills. Our team this year didn’t experience a major loss in players due to graduating or transferring players which shows the amount of youth in our team. In addition, new players from various school joined as well as players moving up from the younger years. Overall, the team hasn’t changed much with only 3 old members not participating. This will allow players to find better positions that suit them best and explore new ones.

I felt that my technique has developed greatly in comparison to last year. Blocking, passing, and spiking has improved as I’m more confident in taking initiative when receiving a set. The experience from my 3 years of training has allowed me to be the volleyball player now. So far, the team has played 2 games against outside school teams. The potential in reaching a good spot in the SAISA tournament looks promising however, improvements and continuous practice are still essential in maintaining the good form.

This season morning training has been introduced during Monday and Wednesday starting at 6:00am to 7:00am. Hopefully, these extra sessions will prove to be useful during the tournament as I’m excited to see my team in Muscat playing volleyball and winning games.

Geckooooooosssss AAWWUUUSHHHHH!
