Housing & Habitat (H&H)…great people, great teachers, wonderful memories. Truly blessed to be part of this service group for all the new lessons I have learned and skills that I have developed through this amazing service. Every Thursday its the thing I’m hoping for. It’s always a blast working in the workshop even with the chaos. I’m always happy to see the crew when I walk through the door of Mr. Rossberg’s classroom. The things we do not only benefit other people through fundraisers (5k Run, Food & Fun Fair) or projects but also benefits ourselves as young men and women moving on in life. I’ve learned how to be patient and grateful for what I have in life. The WWW trip seriously played a big part in that. Learned workshop skills and collaborative skills as we worked a lot together.
This year felt like a great big roller coaster with it being my DP1 year and with all the extra assignments that come with it. H&H felt like an escape for me to relax and regroup with the people I adore, basically, my friends. I always have a great time and enjoy what I’m doing in service which is a really important aspect in doing well in something, is to enjoy it. All the fundraisers like the 5K run was a great success, loads of people showed up and we just had a great Saturday morning. During Food and Fun Fair our ping pong stand maybe could have been better to get more people to join in but we still managed to make something. Chairs have been something we have been working long term on from the beginning of the year. The striking part of the chair assembly process is nearly finished with a few more blocks of wood to separate. We hope to soon be able to assemble the slabs of wood into chairs to be given to the Janoda Foundation.
Due to the tragic events on Easter Sunday we plan to connect with the affected communities by creating a fundraiser to make a stock of essential foods for the people in the refugee camps. All service groups have planned to support the affected one way or other thanks to Amanda who is in close direct contact with serval organizations that support the affected people. Our main goal at the moment is to finish off separating the wood piece for the assembly of the chairs and making sure to be part of helping the people affected on Easter Sunday.
Overall, the crew of H&H I think is doing pretty well, with a lot of youngsters that are leaders shows the great future of this service. I just hope that this service continues to be as amazing as it has shown me this year in the upcoming years. I thank the crew for being so welcoming and just wonderful people towards me as I joined at the start of the year. This year’s service has been great, period.
