Classical Guitar Ensemble – The Beginning

As a DP Music student, I found my way to joining classical guitar ensemble through my Music teacher Mrs. Duncan. It an ASA regarded as creativity which is held on Wednesdays after school from 1:40 to 2:40 by Mr. Marlon. I plan to continue with guitar ensemble through the whole year which means I will also be participating in the several performances in addition like Spring Gala. With our ensemble consisting of 9 people; Rashmi, Andrew, Manon, Philippe, Alexandria, Chithra, Louis, the teacher, and myself there are many ranges of levels and experience of playing the classical guitar, which in my opinion is very good because you can always learn from one another or teach someone.

So far we have completed one piece called ‘Wheels’ which I was part of with Chithra doing the strumming and plucking. I really enjoyed it however, we quickly moved to our new song ‘Billie Jean’ since I missed the first 3 sessions due to our DP orientation. In our new piece, I continue the role with Chithra doing the rhythm which includes plucking and strumming alongside that I have a potential role to also play a starting beat with the body of the guitar at the beginning of the piece.

At the moment I’m really enjoying my time in classical guitar ensemble and I’m glad to have joined in the first place. I hope to continue to be committed with the classical guitar ensemble, to progress as a guitarist, and to develop as a DP music student. I can’t wait to perform however, a bit anxious but I know that it will be worth the experience.
