Since my last CAS post a lot has changed for my service goals of DP1. When writing my last CAS post I was not aware of the fact that the service group “Checkmates” will not be starting for this semester and that all members would need to attend a different service for this semester or possibly the year. Hence why I chose the service group RCCI. RCCI stands for the “Rehabilitation Centre for the Communication and Impaired”. I chose this service because I felt as though I had a responsibility to contribute more to the community, participate in a service that would help others more. Upon thinking about it, I decided RCCI was a great service in order to share my efforts to help the local Sri Lankan students from RCCI. As such my service goals have changed. Some not as much but my personal goals have. Previously I wanted to learn more about Sri Lankan culture, however now on top of that I want to learn how to communicate through not just a language barrier but a communication barrier as well.

When it comes to service we have many personal goals and aspirations however after thinking about it myself and contact previous RCCI service leaders, the main goal for when the students come to OSC is for them to have fun. These students are always eager to come visit us as we are too, and I feel as though instead of imposing a certain activity we want to try with them, it’s better for them to do something that they like to do and something they are used to.
