UN Day Celebrations

On the 7th of October, our school celebrated the UN Day on behalf of representing different nations. OSC is home to a multicultural community with representatives from different countries, ethnicities, and traditions. Thus, it definitely was a delightful sight to explore and learn a lot of new things.

One of the best things was trying out new and various food items which were presented by the parents of the OSC community. All food items were delicious in their own ways. Being a picky eater, this was a fun experience for me. Interestingly, I am not surprised that I enjoyed every dish. Me and my classmates each had our empty lunch boxes filled with almost all kinds of foods. It was a hilarious moment to witness my huge lunch box completely stuffed with all sorts of food.

Despite all of this, the most educational activity we engaged in were the French and Sinhala presentations. The French presentation was presented by the French ab initio class to the preschoolers. Our duty was to educate these young learners about the French culture in Congo. Followed by an introduction of Congolese traditions and popularities, we engaged in a brief drum playing performance. It was exciting to see how all the preschoolers enjoyed our performance and even enjoyed playing the Congolese drums on their own. I was quite grateful to be given such an opportunity to immerse myself in another culture and distribute its knowledge to the others.

Right after the French presentation, was our Sinhala presentation. Me and some of my fellow Sri Lankan classmates organized a small slideshow introducing the Sri Lankan baila music. This was my favourite as all of us in the classroom including the kids, teachers, parents and ourselves formed a circle and danced to one of the most famous baila songs.
