On the 7th of October, the French ab initio class had a small performance for the students in preschool for UN Day. We wanted to educate them on various French-speaking countries. After some brainstorming, we unanimously agreed to explore the French culture of Congo. After about a week’s preparation, we performed for the kids. We included some Congolese drums in our small act which was a success with the small kids.

My peers introduced the Democratic Republic of the Congo and provided a basic introduction to how the French language came to be in this country. After the small presentation, we brought out the Congolese drums that everybody loved. The kids were excited to play them and my friends and I demonstrated some basic beats as well. After the demonstration, we gave the kids the chance to play the drums. Overall it was an interesting experience of immersing in cultures and sharing them with others. I hope to do it again sometime!

Learning Objectives- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The challenge of this experience was to learn and share the Congolese Culture to a community of people. By doing so I had the ability to immerse myself and other people within a new culture.
