Summer Love Sri Lanka Shoot

Summer is so far away, around 3 months to be exact, but that doesn’t stop everyone from experiencing the summer vibe.

Last week I got a call from one of my friends and a senior model from my agency Amandah. He asked me if I could participate in a campaign shoot for Summer Love Sri Lanka, Pool Floatie rental and sales company. I debated about the opportunity and told him i’ll get back to him ASAP. Before I confirmed any further decisions, I spoke to my Agency managers Brain Kerkoven and Kamil Hewavitharan; they were also skeptical about the modeling job. Still, after further discussions and clarification with Amandah, we decided that this would be a good opportunity to experience another big professional shoot and gain more experience and exposure. Therefore I got the green flag from my managers. The following person I needed to go to for permission was my mother. so i sat down and discussed the logistics of the shoot and made preparations with her. we organised our schedules to make sure other plans we had for the week wouldn’t clash with the shoot date. After getting the green flag from my mother. I called Amandah back and told him the good news.

This whole process of discussions and talking to parents and managers is an example of learning outcome LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience, even though I am not indicating this CAS experience, I am demonstrating my strengths of planning and problem solving by negotiating with my parents and mangers and sorting out the details and backline information that was necessary to them.

Now that brings us to the 2nd of March. The shoot was taking place in Bentota. The camera crew and the other models went the day before as the company was providing accommodation. But since I had work to do the night before I couldn’t go. So I woke up at 4am, and my mum drove me down to Bentota to be there on time for the shoot. I got there at around 7am and ate some breakfast and spoke to everyone, and got to know them. The crew was setting up the area at the time, and it was really cool seeing all the inflate-able pool toys and balloons. The first shoot was the girls who were doing a bachelorette concept, be and 2 other guys just chilled and relaxed in the rooms. After the first shoot was finished, we got into our swimsuits, and we split up into groups and tried to cover a range of pictures which ranged from being on the river deck to more high fashion shots in a group. At around 12pm, we had to take a break since the sun was at its peak was the sunlight was too harsh. During this time, we had lunch. At around 3pm, we started the following sections of the shoot, where we all got some solo and group shots of everyone on the inflatable toys in the pool. At this time, we changed into our second pair of swimsuits. This was one of the most fun parts of the shoot, aiming for a more candid vibe. As the sun set, we headed to the river and got in with the floaties for improvised pictures. And after a long day, the sunset concluded the summer love Sri Lanka photoshoot.

Overall, I found this an outstanding and sound experience as I learned what a professional shoot looked like and its environment. I was very grateful to work with such a good team of models and a fantastic client. I believe I learned a lot and have improved from This shoot, and these improvements will be carried on to future shoots.

This experience targeted two learning outcomes LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth and LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. Through this experience, iv identified my skills and, through the help of others, have learned part of this profession I am weak in and need to improve upon. I also developed skills such as confidence and the ability to be comfortable in front of a camera. This whole journey also demonstrates my ability and skill to work and collaborate with others. This photoshoot was a very communicative journey, with me having to talk to different models. They communicate with the photographer to get their desired shots.

overall i am also approaching the learning outcome, LO7 Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
