Final CAS Post

The end of my time at OSC is starting to creep around the corner, signaling that exams are also around the corner, ready to pounce. This made me reflect on the journey that I have gone through these past two years, and the range of activities and CAS experiences iv participated in.

LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

  • Swimming, staying active, and being on top of my fitness have been a part of my routine for most of my life. I found this challenging during the lockdown as I used to be very motivated by th people around me. , During th lockdown as well as after th lockdown, I was able to learn new ways of motivating myself to workout as well as tried new ways of staying healthy by changing my diet and understanding a more well-rounded diet instead of the carb-heavy diet I used to have when I was swimming every morning at 4 am. so intern I have developed mentally and matured in terms of how I look at my fitness journey and how I tackle it.
  • This outcome is also seen through the practice of my visual art skills, as through the years, I have done activities to hone my creativity as I tried new mediums. I also kept pushing myself to develop ideas which helped me create some of my favorite mini pieces. This skill helped me build my creativity, which translated well into my DP Visual Arts course

LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

  • In my CAS journey, I started to mess around with my creativity in terms of art, which took me down a spiral that eventually led me to try out new mediums and forms of art. I used to be very scared of venturing past the usual traditional art techniques. Still, I decided to explore digital art as a CAS creativity experience and instantly fell n love with it. Of course, I couldn’t immediately get the hang of it, and the artwork I created had a few errors here and there, especially the smoothness of the coloring and layering. Still, overall I was very proud of what I achieved. I was able to overcome this mental block I had place don my visual art skills and discovered new skill that I will be hoping to keep advancing in even past my years at OSC

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning could be seen through the organisation of my CAS Project, Creating and planning a Food Review Episode. The journey of communicating with my friends, and emailing managers, was a huge obstacle I had to overcome, which allowed me to gain a new sense of self-confidence and helped me improve my public speaking skills and social skills. Having been used to being in front of a camera due to modeling experience, the part I had to get used to was talking to a camera, as iv had never done that and at first found it very unsettling and very awkward. Still, as time went on and filming continued, it was something I started to pick up. Overall, the CAS project took a lot of initiation and planning from me and forced me to hone my communication skills when talking to my friend and the restaurant manager, but overall gave me skills and an experience that has helped me develop and develop mature.

LO4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

The CAS experience I have been committed to my entire life would be Swimming. Swimming has been a significant part of my life and a skill I have been practicing for a long time which took me to be a national swimmer for Sri Lanka. I was thrown many challenges, especially during the pandemic and the DP. Still, I was able to persevere through alto by continuing to stay focused on my fitness by doing land training online with my team during the lockdown and continuing to train at 4 am once the lockdown was lifted during DP1.

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

The learning outcome can be seen in my SGA EXCO experience in DP2. This was a big jump from being an SGA student representative in grade 10. There was a lot more pressure and more communication and responsibility when being an EXCO member, especially Treasure, as I was in charge of all th money. This was honestly a very successful year as we could host a fundraiser and plan a very, very successful Oscars. The whole process of organizing the Oscars with the entire SGA team was stressful. Still, with everyone working as a team and everyone eventually splitting up the responsibilities, we were able to minimize any problems and be as efficient as possible.

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Joining Gecko.INc and being a part of the service group for four years and being a service leader during my final year at OSC was an exciting journey for me. Being in a pandemic and having our service resources limited and not being able to engage in the main activity of our service, which is coaching local kids on water safety and basic swimming skills. This came with a problem with how we would engage the new members of the service group and how we would set up the service for the upcoming years. With the aid of my Co-Leaders, we were able to overcome most of these Obstacles by creating online Youtube swim videos as well as using our weekly service days as a time to coach our service members on the proper techniques of coaching kids in water safety. even though we were able to overcome some of the problems we still failed in overcoming one hurdle that was being able to host a fundraiser for the service group before we left for exams, unfortunately, we weren’t able to organize one due to the lack of time as well as dates clashing with other events, but even though this year we weren’t able to organize one we left ideas and plans for future leaders.
