The path of making most of (and enjoying) life

Yearbook 2019-2020

Last year I had participated in COMUN EXCO to gain experience in some activities requiring an aspect of creativity and collaboration. This year I have decided to join the school’s yearbook committee as it builds upon all the skills, I had gained the year before. Some of the skills include photography, editing images and incorporating them into a format that is pleasing to an audience and looks satisfying. In addition to this, I have had previous experience with working with a “theme” for a template as evident when Luca and I won last year’s yearbook cover competition with the theme of “polaroid”.

This activity is a year-long commitment and therefore requires consistency throughout the year, working together with my peers in the activity to create a yearbook that will provide students with fond memories long into the future. In the recent meetings, I have been assigned to complete around 10 pages using the Adobe InDesign software which, is quite new to me. With the help of Anuda and the activity leader, Savi, I will hopefully be able to familiarize myself with the software enough to produce aesthetically pleasing designs and fir this year’s theme of “historic”.

Currently, I am planning out my next submission for the yearbook cover competition and hopefully will team up with Luca again to create a new design. I also have come up with a new slogan of “Making History” which I am quite fond of as it both fits the theme and emphasizes the importance of the many projects and accomplishments students at OSC provide. As for my idea for page aesthetic, it includes maroon red, black, white and darkened matt gold. This aesthetic was established after doing some research into the posters of the late 1800s to the early 1900s. This aesthetic has a very sharp contrast, high in shadows and highlights and incorporates a large amount of saturation. Keeping this in mind, I will model many of my pages after the thematic aesthetic of the poster, making sure the final result is the right balance of modern photography yet antique mood.
