The path of making most of (and enjoying) life

Yearbook 2018-2019 Final cover design

Following the previous designs we had drawn, Luca and I needed to begin getting the footage to insert into the template of the Yearbook cover we had synthesised. We started off with collecting images and footage from the Geckonet website which, had compiled a database of images from all the events that had happened over the last year. We had to ensure that there was a mix between action, service and creativity evident in the cover as well as a balance between primary and secondary school images. The process for inserting the images was relatively easy however, was quite time consuming, making us crop and fit images together to ensure that the final result looked good. A lot of the process also included cropping and cutting the frames such that they looked clean and sleek. After completing the frames there was still the centrepiece to complete which, was the DP2 group picture with the yearbook banner.

We started off making the banner by using an old sheet and painting the words of the yearbook title onto it. We needed to fasten the cloth with clamps to ensure that it held in place and the wrinkles would not obscure the painting process. We decided to go with a blue paint for the words in order to maintain the school colors in our yearbook entry. This process was rather tedious and required a lot of focus and a steady hand. After about 2 hours it was completed and left to dry. The next day Luca and I gave the banner to the DP2s so that they could each sign it with markers.

Painting the banner for the DP2s

Once the DP2s had completed the signing process Luca and I borrowed the Geckonet camera and with the help of Anuda we took multiple pictures of the DP2s with the banner. A few portrait and landscape image orientations taken so that later on we could reflect and see which of the photos taken would prove to be the best quality and fit for the frame we had given it.

After editing the central DP2 image and putting it in place all that was left to do was to look for any errors/mistakes and send the final product to the Yearbook team. The search for errors was initially difficult but, after a while more and more mistakes became apparent such as incomplete or unclean cropping, images oriented slightly wrong and some of the images were seen to be overlapping and additional cutting was necessary to correct the mistakes. After a thorough quality check, we finally sent it to the yearbook where it will be featured on the cover of the 2018-19 yearbook.
