The path of making most of (and enjoying) life

Service Reflections-Semester 2

This semester has been eventful in the field of service, participating in Geckonet had provided me with opportunities to improve my video editing capabilities and camera skills. I have been involved in projects such as the newly initiated “Learning through Serving” series where, participants of Geckonet make promotional and informational videos (much like documentaries) for each of the service groups. This will hopefully augment the amount of service that is done through the Geckonet group.

I started my video projects with putting together the checkmates video, a process which required a lot of video and audio recording as well as interviews with leaders in the service. With this there was a lot of footage to work with and it took a while to edit the video, merging scenes and ensuring that the video remains entertaining yet still informational. Overall I thought it was a relatively good first learning through serving video and the Checkmates service group was rather pleased with the final result.

I was also involved in the footage collection for other service groups such as reef keepers and housing for habitat. For this the ronin was mostly used to collect quality footage and a phone mic was used to record the voices as the camera is not the best device to use when it comes to collecting voice memos.

In addition to the learning through serving projects, I also played a role in the creation of the Gecko news and pep rally videos. I was included in the synthesis of the scripts for both videos as well as playing the role of an anchor. The 2 videos were then featured in the assembly and pep rally as Geckonet’s contribution to the school community and helping the various student led activities in school.

Finally, during the assemblies of the second semester I went around with the canon camera gathering footage and pictures of the events so that the media is available to the students and it is especially helpful to students who are in need of footage for their CAS blogs.

Example of footage I have collected of the events.
