Quarantine continues for a total of 3 months, and as this is being written the curfew rules are being relaxed, as Colombo is now back open during the day. However, I was still at home before this and during this time I have continued and have also expanded some of my CAS activities.

Creativity

My family and I continue to play poker every few nights, and through this time I have nearly perfected my new card shuffling trick and am now very good at it. I have expanded my creativity aspect by helping my dad out in our garden. Our garden now has lots of fruits and vegetables, ranging from mango’s, guava, avocado, bananas, lettuce, egg plant, tomato’s, onions and much much more. I made an addition to this collection by helping plant some cabbage and bok-choy while at home.

Activity

For activity I have continued my exercise regime at home, and have expanded it further by adding bench presses and more weight work outs. Also all the gardening outside added to the activity, plus of course walking and playing with my dog.

Service

Finally for service I am continuing with helping to clean the house, taking out the trash, washing dishes, etc. and also the helping with the composting happening at home. However, I have greatly expanded my service as the Grade 11 Economics class is planning an online UNICEF charity fundraiser for coronavirus relief in Sri Lanka. We are planning on having multiple segments in the show, with messages from past students and teachers of OSC, news, art tutorials, performances, tribute videos and much more. I am part of the the tech support of the show, helping to organize the show online and also making a few of the videos which will be shown on the show. The show will be held on June 9th and all funds we raise for it will be sent to charity. I am also considering to have this as my CAS Project for DP, but will have to confirm that later on.

Learning Outcomes

Like before, my activities at home can relate to the CAS learning outcome of ‘demonstrate that they have undertaken challenges, developing new skills in the process’ as in the Creativity strand I have developed the skill of how to shuffle cards in a new way, which requires lots or practice and is challenging to perfect. I also am ‘engaging with issues of global significance’ in terms of the charity fundraiser being held, as the virus has affected everyone around the world. In Sri Lanka some people are less fortunate and unable to survive, and I hope that the money we raise will change a few lives.
