Antigone Now

Initial poster design (by me using ink and watercolour on paper)

Participating in the secondary production of the modern adaptation of the Greek tragedy Antigone,  allowed me to develop on a wide range of skills. Not only in acting for playing the roles of Oedipus and a member of the Chorus, but also in creative thinking, collaborative and leadership skills. As well as making a commitment and throwing myself into the world of theatre once again.

I had the opportunity to selected the soundtrack of the production. I selected a range of contemporary musical pieces/soundscapes in order to elaborate on the eerie feelings the play evokes. I also had the privilege to co-direct a hand full of scenes, working closely with other members of the cast to help bring certain ideas to life (such as the mask “scavenger” scene, shown below).

Another way in which I was involved in the production was by creating the artworks used for the poster, tickets and program/booklet (image shown above). The director gave me a general idea of what she wanted, however I was able to have my own creative input, making several samples for her to choose preferred elements from. I improved in my artistic skills, developing my watercolour techniques and listening/taking feedback given.

Rehearsals for Antigone Now took place multiple times a week and on weekends, for three months, I committed to every single one a tried to stay focused in order to put my full effort into the production. We preformed twice in December, I am very proud of the cast and what we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time. It was  bitter-sweet as this will be my last every production at OSC.
