This year, basketball has been harder than ever before, and that’s why I’m loving it. We have had countless sessions where we haven’t even touched a basketball, and these sessions are the ones that are making a difference. As a team, we have noticeably increased our levels of fitness and strength, as well as our skill levels, and we put this to the test in our first game against CIS.
The first quarter was intense and we couldn’t manage to keep the ball. We were panicking too much and needed a couple shots to go in to inject confidence into our team. At the end of the first quarter, we had gained confidence and despite being down 10 points, still felt confident that we could pull ourselves back into the game. The second quarter still wasn’t good for us, as we still trailed by double digits at halftime. Coach told us to be more aggressive in the second half, and it paid off. We had a great third quarter but the difference in points between OSC and CIS was still nearly impossible to decrease. The fourth quarter was still a successful one and we played some good basketball, but we lost by a great margin.
Despite the loss, we still played well and there were plenty of positives and points to improve on in this game. I learned a lot from this game because I didn’t play well and now know what I have to do to improve. I will be improving my strength with coach so that I can improve and play better in the next game.
