The Return of Housing & Habitat

Its been a long time since the Housing & Habitat group last me for service but at last, we are back.  The last time we met was just after the Home Run which we successfully organized and managed to run just before the lockdown. Since then, it has been difficult to do service activities other than the Zoom-a-thon which wasn’t related to Housing & Habitat. Now that we are meeting online, we have to plan how to maintain our service group through zoom. Usually, we are a very hands on service group which spends a lot of time working on building tables and chairs for local schools but for now we cannot do this. At the moment, we have only just started planning and are assuming that the Housing & Habitat week without walls trip is going forward.

We have set out a few tasks that we wish to complete before the winter break. The task that I have done already is to email Mr. Rajiv and ask him for the contacts to the local schools that we work with and the Janoda foundation. The Janoda foundation is a preschool which the week without walls group visits and helps out in some way. When I was on the trip, we build a fence around the foundation which took a few days of hard work to complete. To find out what difficult task the students on the trip this year will have to do, we need to contact the foundation and ask them what they need. Also, the same must be done for the local schools so that we don’t waste our time working on things that the schools don’t need.

In addition, there are other tasks that have been done or still need to be done. One task is to update the H&H social media accounts which are Instagram and Facebook accounts. A suggestion was made to also make a Housing & Habitat website but we are still undecided on whether to do this or not. Another task is to write a description of our service and add photos to a folder which can be accessed by the whole school to show everyone what we have been up to. Furthermore, we are going to be planning some sort of project which may be online or in person that will take place sometime next semester.
