For the last few weeks, I have started playing tennis again like I did before I arrived in Sri Lanka. In Ethiopia, I played tennis once a week for about 5 years and enjoyed it a lot. I didn’t continue in Sri Lanka when I first arrived because of the heat and the poor quality of the courts I visited. However, a new court was built near my house this summer and I quickly found a coach and started playing again. I am still getting back to where I was ability-wise, and will soon be able to increase my level further. In addition, my height advantage that I didn’t have before helps me a lot now because I can play more attacking shots by hitting the ball down more. I look forward to developing my skills in the sport that used to be one of my favorites.
I plan to practice with my coach for 1 hour and 30 minutes every Saturday for the rest of the year. The instructor is going to help me by re teaching me the techniques and refreshing my memory on how to play tennis. I want to improve a lot and maintain this activity because it is going to be tough to do other active activities. SAISA sports have been cancelled for the first two seasons which means I have to find other ways of exercising such as playing tennis.
