Housing and Habitat Home Run Prep

Every Thursday, I have been doing service for an hour after school with a group called Housing & Habitat. Our goal is to make tables and chairs for local schools and we work on making them ourselves. At this time of the year, we aren’t working on the chairs and tables. At this time of year, we are preparing for the Home Run, which is an event we hold every year to raise funds for our service. This event is a 5 km run which goes around the streets near the school which has a small entry fee. We use the funds to buy materials for the tables and chairs such as the wood, paint, gloves, hammers, and more.

During the home run prep, we have made posters which we have stuck up around the school to make the home run be known. We have also created a video which will be shown in assembly to advertise the home run and invite the whole school to attend. This video was created to be entertaining, so we included some comedy in the video. It is also very professional and is a great way to motivate people into attending. I have learned a lot from this preparation including the fact that creating an advertisement requires a lot of patience. For the video and the posters to look professional, they need to be perfected which takes time and many edits and re-takes. All I can say is that my patience has improved a lot throughout this process.
