Pre Order Christmas Bake Sale

It has been our annual tradition to host the christmas bake sale at school. It is actually the most important event we host all year in terms of earning funds. This being because it is the main way for us to earn funds for our annual sterilization and vaccination camp. It is a way for us to bring joy to the community which we can then pass on to the stray dogs and cats later on! This year we switched it up and made it a pre order bake sale rather than a traditional lunch time bake sale. It was a choice made by us and the head of service learning as this way when the cookies and goods are purchased the reason for the purchase is well thought out.

The entire process took a lot of planning and action for it to have turned out so successful. It took us about two service lessons to complete the planning for this event, as we had to figure out a time line to actually make the goodies, the prices, how we would distribute them and what we were actually planning on baking. Although it was very stressful to plan out each of the different steps with such detail, it eventually paid off when a quick reference or reminder was needed.

Each member of Care For Paws dedicated two Saturdays just for a full day of making dough, baking and decorating. It was a great way for some team building and for the students to learn to work in collaboration with each other. For this process it was extremely important that each and every member put in equal amounts of time and energy for what they were doing to make the pre oder bake sale possible. The christmas music in the background with everyone working diligently on their separate recipes was a sight to see. It was probably one of my most proudest moments as service leader, as everyone was so focused and dedicated to what they were doing. When each session came to an end, they were all willing to come again and help with finishing the orders.

These are some images of all the members baking and some of the goods that we actually ended up plating!

A google form was sent to the parents of the primary and secondary school to fill out with the following options:

  • Grinch plate (800 lkr)
  • Reindog plate ( 500 lkr)
  • Santa Plate (1200 lkr)
  • Elf Plate (350 lkr)

Each of the different plates came with different offerings of goodies. The google from was closed at the end of the week and we received a total of 36 responses with each responder requesting more than just one plate. The total number of christmas cookie plates sold was 58 plates. This is a huge accomplishment as we set a goal of wanting to sell a minimum of 40 plates.

Overall, it is safe to say that it was a successful and delicious event that we hosted. Whilst we did spend large amount of time baking and whipping together a variety of cookies it most definitely was rewarding to see the smiles on people’s faces when they received their plates. It will be exciting to see the number of stray dogs and cats we are able to treat at the sterilization and vaccination camp later in the year.

Merry Woofmas to all!
