Beyond the Classroom Into the Rain Forest (Group IV Science Trip)

The DP group science trip was something I will never forget, especially given the risks and hardships I encountered along the way. The thought of having to go through a deep, muddy, damp, and insect-infested forest did not excite me, the fact that most of my friends were there with me calmed me and helped me entirely forget about my concerns. On the second day of our the trip, we would divide into groups and create squared plots in which we would analyse what was in the plots, such as specific plants, temperature, pH of the soil, and so on. The task allowed us to cooperate with people we didn’t know as well as get to know each other better. This vacation would not only educate us, but it would also increase our cardio and endurance due to the extensive trekking and climbing we had done. We also had a lecture and presentation given by one of the professors who lives and studies in the forest, and we learnt a lot about the forest’s history and the ecosystem in general.
