Horse Riding in North Central

Being in lockdown and DLP has made a lot of changes in my daily routine as it hasn’t been easy to go out and engage in the activities as before. However, during the December break I was able to visit Anuradhapura which is the capital city of North Central Province and is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sinhala civilisation. We were able to visit many ancient ruins in the city and as we returned back to the hotel we stayed, we found out that they offer horse rides and I was very excited to try it out because it has been a very long time since I last went hose riding. The groom person helped me to learn how to ride the horse in a very easy way and it was very similar to driving a vehicle and he was very friendly as he helped me to take many photos during the ride. After all, it was a very fun experience and I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to go on horse riding once again when I visit North Central.

Another important part of this trip was we saw a procession held by the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on our way back to home. There were about 10 elephants dressed up in very colourful and traditional clothing and it was very eye-catching.It was my first time seeing a procession held by the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and therefore I was very excited and delighted. This trip never failed to make me happy in anyway and we all had a lot of fun and enjoyed everything about the trip.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: I improved my horse riding skills during the activity.

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: participating in an experience that demands an appropriate personal challenge with new experiences.
