Building a Surfboard

Today I went to build my surfboard I have been working on for a while. Today I managed to complete a lot of work and im nearing the finish line and its looking really good. As the board is still in the construction process it doesn’t look much like a surfboard but it is getting there. So, today I started with my board pieces and I had to cut a template to cut the rocker (the curve) out, so I made a wooden template so that I could use a hot wire to cut through the foam and along the template to get the curved piece out.

After doing the first one and after replacing the wire multiple times after it snapping more than 5 times. Very frustrating but I got it done after a few hours. After that I got the second one cut out as well so I was left with the 2 half’s which I then had to take the 2 templates I cut and put them on either side with the stringer (thin wooden piece in the middle) in the middle lined up. I got clamps ready and then applied glue on both bits. I had to move fast as the glue dries quick and starts to inflate so as soon as I put it on, I put the sides together with the glue and the stringer in the middle and had to put the clamps on as soon as I could and it was all together.

These 2 images are the end result of the blanc I made still allowing the glue to dry. After this I cut the rough shape of the board out and took it home to sand. The picture below is the final blanc I made with the full sanding and shaping.
