This is my first year with the OSC Reefkeepers. I joined this group because I wanted to work in a group which was focussed on climate change and in our school there are 2 groups in our school Recycling and OSC’s Reefkeepers. I was really interested in OSC Reefkeepers because they focus on a lot of different projects. Some of this years projects we are focussing on are Upcycling Plastic, Neighbourhood sweep, Plastic Free Campus and occasional beach clean up. This semester I worked with Henry and Stefan to start up with a new project called Plastic Free Campus. The Plastic Free campus is an initiative to limit the use of plastic in our school campus. For the project, Henry and Stefan had already done most of the research about the different levels and steps to be taken when I joined them. So, I contributed in helping to get approvals from the Head of the school, Dr. Kleiss, Primary School Environmental club supervisor Ms. Susan who was very interested in the idea and so we got her approval to work with the primary school club to help us with this project. Finally, we met with the Recycling group which is another group focussed on climate change and got their support as well. Now we are gathering a Eco Team from middle school who will be completing the modules. Alongside this, I also helped in selling t-shirts during the SCN fair and helped raise awareness by putting up posters in our bulletin.
I am really excited to start semester 2 of OSC’s Reefkeepers and act on the Plastic Free Campus initiative. I also want to involve myself more in this group.
