UN DAY 2019

The UN Day was celebrated in our school on the 4th of October which also was the last day of interim semester. This was a very fun experience and it also brings together the different cultures in OSC. The day consist of a flag parade, class activities on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), Food from different countries! and ends with an assembly.

As a DP Geography student, we were given the opportunity to team up with the economics students and the MUN students to help out with the presentations for class activities. This year’s UN day focused on the Goal number 5 which was Gender Inequality. We were divided into groups which were 6th and 7th grade student leaders which focused on Gender Inequality and Education, 8th,9th and 10th grades focused on Gender Wage Gap and 11th and 12th grades focused on Human Trafficking.

I was a student leader for a group of 8th,9th and 10th graders which focused on Gender wage gap alongside Kevin and Liana. We had several collaborative classes with the Economics class to work on the presentations. The presentation consisted of introducing SDG and wage gap to the students, then talking about impacts of wage gap and benefits of solving wage gap. Then the presentation concluded with a poster activity which was writing pros and cons of different solutions to wage gap. The students listening to our presentations were very engaged and answered a lot of the questions which were posed to them.

Overall, I really had fun in this year’s UN day working with students on Gender Inequality. The students were very engaged in this topic and I feel that the class activities that our school does during UN day is a great way to inform others about Global problems since we are the future leaders of this world.
