SAISA Basketball 2020 – Amman, Jordan

One of the hardest nights for me as a student-athlete was coming to terms with my Senior season. The night we play our final varsity game at home. It’s the one game we all dread. Because we have practised and been a part of the team for four years we’re seeing the basketball season hit the end of its schedule and seniors filled the SAISA event. It makes the games go longer, but I actually enjoy them.

As for being the captain, I always knew I would want to try to be a captain of this team. For me, it’s about loving something so much that I want to be as much of a part of it as possible and making sure that those who come after me have as amazing of or even better experience than I did. I was able to test my role as a leader as well. I found a good balance between working hard and spectating in practice so I could give constructive and meaningful corrections to the team. This lead to me being attached to this team more than I have anywhere else in my life. The bond I created on the court cant be compared to any before and the loyalty I have for the geckos is indescribable.

The event in Jordan started off with me being in the zone and focused purely on winning and helping out my teammates. With the first game against the home team, the crowd wasn’t in our favour. Despite this was my personal best scoring game that tournament and we almost came victorious. There was a game in the elimination rounds against TAISM that we nearly knocked them off their trip to the finals which was a nailbiter to say the least, unfortunately, lady luck wasn’t in our side and we ended up in 6th out of 8 teams with only two wins under our belt.

I want the thank the players as well as the coaches for helping me grow as a person.

GO GECKOS!!!
