For her personal project, Naomi has decided to organize a fashion show where she designed 3 different clothing lines for the 5 models (Eloise, Irina, Aryaa, Rupasha, and Senaka) and performed along with 3 singers (Maya, Akhil, Adam (with Chirath accompanying). She gave me the role as the MC, where I’m responsible of opening the show and announcing all the clothing lines and performers. I have never announced for anything before, let alone a fashion show, the thought of that used to be really frightening.
The Role of MC
As stated before, the role as the MC has the responsibility of opening the show and announcing all the clothing lines and performers. With this, I have a separate script with everything I need to say to ensure that everything is in order and perfect throughout this whole show to make sure Naomi has a great outcome for her personal project.
I had to make sure to memorize the script before the actual event and make sure to make perfect sense at all times. This includes speaking in an understandable and confident speaking pace, being able to pronounce each word correctly, etc.
Hours of Practice
When stage setup came into place for the first time hours before the actual event, everyone involved in the fashion show came to school to do full run throughs. Throughout this whole process and even before this day, all 5 models were mentored by a CFW model named Sonali, where they learnt all the basics of how to walk a runway. During the runaway classes were going on, I had the opportunity to learn every single line off the script even though I got to do a full run through with and without the script. As each run through went, I became more and more confident in what I was saying and was more able to memorize and say my lines without any mistakes.
I Did It
I was met with so much praise from the audience and all my teammates (Naomi, the models, and the singers) after the fashion show ended. I’m so surprised and proud of how I managed to announce everything perfectly, especially since that was my first time and I was so so nervous. I am, however, grateful I got introduced to this opportunity and managed to take a risk and faced my fears.
