Me interviewing a tailor to understand their personal ways of living in Kithulgala

DP orientation was an unforgettable experience, a trip that would eventually change me as a person.

I was surrounded by the best group of classmates in which we were accompanied by the astonishing views. This was an opportunity for us as a group to bond and share our experiences together. 3 days was all it took for me to realize how great my class was.

Out of all, it was the 2nd day which was the highlight reel for me or in simple terms, it was the abseil down the waterfall. After the 2 hour hike, we arrived at the top. It didn’t seem like much but as soon as I looked down at the waterfall, I knew I was destined to conquer this abseil or in other words the battle against my fear of heights. I was interviewed by Mr. Lockwood just before my abseil about facing my fears, it was a reminder that I had to face my fear. No more than a few minutes later, I was attached to the harness. Slowly but steadily going down, it was like I was falling down towards my death bed. But in reality, it was just a beautiful experience, the surrounding view was just surreal.

After all the adventurous moments, we were set out to interview different people with different jobs and occupations who live around the Kithulgala area, this was a great way to understand the lives that they live and the everyday activities they do as a need or as recreation, after all, we are all humans. I’ve always been interested in how other people live their lives and how culture and the other factors affected their lives. So I definitely enjoyed this part of DP orientation too.

At the end of this journey, I realized that moments like these shape a persons life in the future, even though if it seems like its a small thing. And, that understanding how people live their lives differently and I feel like thats what make us appreciate others and also life more.
