Natural Photography in Sri Lanka

For a large part of my life, I have been taken all around the different corners of Sri Lanka spending that time searching (but mostly complaining) and hiking to new destinations. Because my dad was such a huge fan when it came to photography I too became inspired to try and improve my abilities as well. In fact, I have become so occupied by my photography that I used my photography skills as part of my Personal project in which I made a book that highlighted the various different endemic species in Sri Lanka, ranging from snakes to birds.

For me I like to spend time going out taking photos, however, I am not as intense as my dad. My dad loves the idea of going deep into the unknown (which usually takes hours) and finding a rare species. For me, as interesting and cool as that may seem I have found myself to be more interested in first improving my abilities as I know I still have a long ways to go before I can make some amazing photography.

As a way to show evidence in my work, I created an Instagram account which I use frequently to upload and show my photography to family members and friends. Here is the Link: Instagram

The Instagram account allows me to be able to get feedback and ideas from others to help me improve in my photography the next time I upload my photos. It allows me as well to look at other people’s styles of photography and helps me expand my knowledge of formats for the images.

I hope to improve eventually on my portate photos and to try more aesthetic and scenery shots rather than just animal photography in Sri Lanka. I  would also want to have a more diverse portfolio to present on my Instagram account. As someone always learning new ways to improve my photography I am always trying out new ways I can edit my photos in various styles. Currently, I am following an aesthetic of black and white, but I want to be able to expand beyond just that and try new things.
