OSC Gecko Network – Service Beginning

Gecko net is one of the youngest service groups compared to many of the others being only here for around 6 years unlike many of the other services. Because of that our service is still finding its footing and with Covid-19, this means that it’s more difficult for us as a service to be able to do our Job. So you may be asking, what is Gecko Net? Well, Gecko Net is a service group designed with the purpose to create and endorse other services through online media.  We photograph, record, and create films (such as gecko news) to inform people about various events and as ways to say thank you to these services. Gecko Net also helps in the production of youtube channels for the school, as well as for the services (Here is an example: Link). What I love about Gecko Net is that it is a really close nit group with great people always willing to help people still trying to learn.

Oftentimes in Gecko Net, it takes a lot of work outside of the service time to help smoothen and complete a perfect video and also requires us to work as a group. Because of this, there is quite a lot of work for many of us in Gecko Net to produce. Because of that, we are designated into various groups to help reduce laziness and increase efficiency.

 

Often times I am asked the question, how does Gecko Net even fit into a service? The answer is not entirely so simple for you see, Gecko Net is not technically your average service which has a single goal in mind to focus on such as cleaning up the school or helping in the cancer hotel. Rather we as Gecko Net help spread awareness of these services. Our service is meant to help others spread their message and bring awareness to both the school and others online.

This year we plan to make major changes to our system by reducing our group’s size and having a leader on each project to help oversee many of the events and projects.  As a service, we are among the newest added to the school, which means we are still trying to get an understanding of how we can function as a group. Personally, I am excited for what this year brings as never before have we had to try and find new ways to film and record others while staying at home.

 

This focuses on the second learning outcome which was to show that challenges are being undertaken. For GeckoNet we are met with a very interesting challenge to produce pictures and films without even leaving our houses. This is a difficult challenge that we are facing, however, I know that our group is going to persevere and do great.
