The CAS Project

Plan/Idea:

For the first steps of my final CAS Project, I brainstormed some possible ideas. I am very interested in the world of arts and music design, however I don’t have the means or knowledge to create music. Jade and I decided it would be really interesting to work together to create several tracks dissecting contrasting themes, along with cover design for each song.  This collaborative project would focus around experimenting and allow us to both learn from each other, improving our collaborative and critical thinking skills. Along with creativity. Me and Jade discussed the roles each of us would play in this project, I suggested that I could mainly help with create the album covers of the singles, and she could execute the music making part as she has the software on her laptop. However, me and Jade still want to partake in both sides of this project (the art and music) so we would create plans and share ideas on what the final project would look/sound like. So far, we thought creating at least two tracks would be a balanced idea, each track with its own artwork, focusing a specific emotion (positive/negative). We could present the final projects together in an accessible manner, allowing users to listen to the music and view the accompanying art, as well as the steps it took to get to the final project. To be specific with goals, I would like to design two album cover artworks for Jade. I will plan the product by creating rough sketches. This will be done in the coming weeks. Before the end of march, I would to have at least one song with its accompanying piece of art completed.

Steps:

After showing the preliminary design to my partner, Jade, I started out the final product by first sketching the design with pencil, than going over with pen and finally altering the colours of the piece to enunciate the negative emotions of the piece (as you can see in the images below, taken by me; highlighting the steps it took) Along the way, I confronted my partner, allowing her to give her thoughts and feedback on how the illustration was going thus far. In the last step to the first cover, I converted my piece to negative colour, making the artwork alot darker in nature to help meet my intention.

After the first piece was done, I discussed with my partner the next artwork, she recommended doing the next piece in a different style in order to really highlight the contrasting emotions, which Jade would also be doing with the songs. I agreed with this idea, so I got started with the next piece. Following similar steps, I started with rough sketches, whilst simultaneously meeting with my partner to check up on each other regarding how the songs and artworks were going. The final steps involved adding slightly warmer colours which married the vibe of the music, see steps and final product below, which as you can see is more pure and elegant compared to the fisrt.

This Cas Project was really rewarding for me. Not only did I enjoy collaborating with my friend to created multiple forms of art, I enjoyed working on my own designing these artworks and improving my skills in illustration, pen/pencil work. I showed how I can plan and for fill a project, overcoming the challenges met on the way.
