Green Flag Presentation

On behalf of the Recycling and Sustainability service group, Stefan and I designed 8 slides to present to the FEE for the Green-Flag Presentation. This is not only an exhibition for the interviewers, but also a deep reflection of the service’s work in past years.

In our slides, we first introduced our existing projects such as the biogas plant, solid waste management, worm farm, and collaborations with Primary. We put our emphasis on the biogas plant specifically, talking about on-campus food waste reduction, trainings with the PSGA, and curricular activities (my ESS Internal Assessment is also mentioned). Then, we reflected on the challenges we faced over the years of covid and economic crisis. As the service member who has stayed here for the longest time, I discussed the changes over the years and difficulties we overcame, aiming to show our resilience and wisdom in resolving hardships. We also discussed future projects such as trainings on primary waste collection and solar panels. We worked closely with Housing and Habitat, PSGA, and Eco Schools on this presentation, our teachers, instructors, and Dr.Kleiss have also offered us profound support in achieving our goals. This opportunity allowed us to realize our accomplishments, and we also learnt about our improvements from the questions the FEE representatives asked (LO5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.)

It was very encouraging to know that our school has successfully been recognized for a Green Flag, and we are ready to take further actions to improve our school environment. (LO6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance) In accordance to the suggestions made by the committee, I will work with my service group to address the reduction of food waste in the first place, while enhancing our biogas project on the waste proposal. We will also devise more innovative ways to take care of the solid waste on campus. (LO1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.)
