2022 – 2023 Global Board Election

The 2021-2022 Plant For The Planet Global Board has ended, and my term as the Vice President has completed. Thanks to this international platform, over the year I have worked with peers and trained ambassadors all over the world, and accomplished a lot by helping organize the COP 26 and 27, planning the Tree Talk podcast, and instructing on the UNEP Billion Tree Projects (LO6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance). I wanted to continue with the ongoing projects such as the podcast, COP 28, and training the ambassadors in the Youth Summit, so I decided to campaign for myself again for the 2022-2023 global board (LO1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth). I have made campaigning videos online, and speeches about my environmental ideals, contributions, etc. Most importantly, I hope to bring my experience in the last board to the new one and succeed together. I worked closely with my friend Miku, who is also an old member of the board.

My Inauguration Speech. By: The Author

Luckily, I have been successfully elected out of the approximately 20 applicants into the board representing Sri Lanka, while Miku represents Japan, and our first inauguration session took place last weekend. The video has been streamed on the Plant For the Planet facebook account. In the meeting, I talked about my future goals and potential projects to be brought into the board, and stated that I am determined to help the environment and increase climate justice with my lovely peers (LO5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively). Then, we also chatted with representatives who has been in the COP 27 to update us on the meetings and initiatives.

I have worked with Plant for the Planet for over 6 years now, ambassador for 4 years and board vp for 2 years (LO4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences). Nonetheless, I have endless projects and initiatives to propose and act out, for I recognize my action as an environmental activist, and appreciate the international platform where I have an amplified voice, a lot of networking, and great opportunities (LO7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions). I look forward to work with the new board and continue with my impacts.
