Huirong Yang DP2 CAS Goals

I look forward to a new CAS experience in DP2. To make it fulfilling and enjoyable, I created a list of goals as improvements/expansions of last year’s goals to be followed in the upcoming year.

Creativity:

While last year I focused on the creation of my Youtube Channel, this year I hope to continue maintain this platform with more videos. This can largely help me to improve on my artistic interest and skills, which not only complements my learnings in IB Visual Art, but also expands my perspectives on cultural expressions through art.

I also hope to contribute my artistic creativity to more platforms and opportunities. For instance, sending paintings to the Advocate magazine, making infographic for my school or extracurricular services, taking random photos, and looking for online publications. Admittedly, school work has squeezed a large part of my time for art, but I’m looking forward to regaining the balance and being artistic again.

I am looking for more collaborative opportunities. Upon hearing the Secondary is making collaborations with the Primary, I will become more keen in advocating for myself and create more activities with the kids.

Activity:

I will keep up with the gym workouts from last year. However, I am planning on a few improvements to make the exercises more effective. Being hospitalized and receiving relapses made me realize the importance of fitness training even more. To further improve my immune systems, I decided to change my fitness plan by increasing the varieties and intensities. I plan to add more rebounding movements, core strength training, and high-intensity interval movements. While I do not have a trampoline at home, I will practice similar rebounding movements such as heel raises and jumping jacks. I also plan to add in weight-liftings, sit-ups, more yoga, and stretches.

Moreover, I kept up with my tennis and badminton matches with friends in Port City during the summer, and I wish to continue the training and practices into the school year as well. In addition to the gym exercises, the ball games allow me to breathe fresh air. I also believe that they improve my cardiovascular system, arm strength, and agility.

Service:

For this year’s service, I plan to look for more varieties in the currently existing projects, and engage in new plans. As a leader of Recycling and Sustainability, I seek fun sessions in addition to the collection routine. Right now, Stefan and I have added the biogas plant popcorn cooking session. In the future, we will be able to make more kinds of food and other use of the plant.  In addition to the biogas plant usage, I will help raise awareness of the new food waste bin in the canteen and encourage more students to put food inside. This can largely increase the inputs and outputs of the biogas system, making it more effective while reducing the school’s food waste disposal. I will also increase the collaborations with Eco-School to contribute to the campus community collectively, especially when the school is preparing for the Eco-School assessment. Through meetings, discussions, and physical collaborations on recycling, disposal, and biodiversity management, we can elevate the campus environment to a new level.

I aim to create more impact outside campus as well. Using my resources in China-Lanka Friendship Association, I hope to bring more aid and help to the Lanka community under the 2022 Economic Crisis. Two of the main issues we are addressing are poverty and hunger, which directly links to human survival. Through some of the existing projects such as rice distributions or lunch bag giveaways on Poya Days, we hope to ensure food security around Colombo outskirts. With more fundings over the year, we will be able to carry out more projects and help more people.
