QUARANTINE DIARIES 2- STAYING CREATIVE

As I mentioned in my previous post, there are many things that Quarantine refrains you from doing. However, that allows for our mind to be more creative than ever, especially since we’re basically stuck at home and are almost obligated to try new things. Staying at home for almost 22 consecutive days has given me time to do creative things that I don’t usually do on a daily basis. Here are some examples of things that I have done outside of school and active time in order to stay busy:

I’ve created new art pieces; collages, watercolor paintings, painting with acrylics, origami, etc. and I have also gone back to old pieces I created throughout the year and I added things on to it to change it up. Alongside the small-scale collages, I have also created whole-wall collages in one of my bedroom walls with pictures of my friends and family that I’ve collected throughout the years. I personally find that doing some form of art, even if it’s just a simple sketch or drawing, gives me the serenity and relaxation needed throughout the day and it also gives my mind a lot of creative flow so that I don’t spend the whole day stuck on my laptop and restricting my mind from having its own input. This is also a continuation of my in-school meditative coloring program, seen as I also have an adult coloring book that I color in almost every single day, even when I’m doing my leisure activities such as watching Netflix. I find that it’s a good way to keep myself busy while also creating something aesthetic and useful.

I’ve also learned new songs on the piano with the Synthesia program found on youtube. I started playing piano when I was about in 3rd grade, where I learned how to read music notes and play the basic chords. I continued playing for 5 years until I was finishing 7th grade. However, since then I haven’t taken official piano classes and have hence lost many of my skills. Despite that, I’m using my time at home now to gain back those skills and re-learn songs that I previously knew how to play. I practice around 1-2 hours every single day. Here is a small clip of one of the songs I’m currently working on= https://drive.google.com/open?id=1d7L5SbjYY1bH9hXvaXfWeLQl2L4qp_Pu

Alongside all those other activities that I’ve been doing, I’ve also been in the kitchen a lot, either cooking lunch, dinner, or baking sweet treats. One of my favorite recipes to make is cinnamon rolls, especially ones that are super soft and warm in the middle, and have a lot of filling as well! Other than cinnamon rolls, which I’ve made twice already in the past week, I’ve also made different types of cookies, like peanut butter, chocolate chip, and chocolate cookies. I think that it’s a really fun activity to do, especially with your family, and it’s also nice to treat yourself, especially during this time.
