MEDITATIVE COLORING (Q1)

As for the creativity component of CAS this year, I chose to do meditative coloring once a week (every Monday after school). After having attended that class for an entire quarter, I realized how much I enjoy coloring and it’s relaxing effects. Despite the fact that I had friends in the class and we would talk at times, we managed to find a balance between communication and simply coloring with no distractions.

It was an experience that I hadn’t had before; just sitting down and coloring for nearly an hour and a half a week. Even though it may sound simple, there are also frustrations that come with it, especially if you’re coloring sophisticated pieces of art, which require a lot of patience.

Especially being a person that struggles with patience, being obliged to remain in a classroom doing not much than coloring for an hour and a half, was a struggle at first. However, with the more times I attended, I noticed that my patience began to grow alongside it. I have definitely noticed a positive impact in regards to stress reduction and productivity levels. I have been more relaxed and therefore studying at home was made easier, since I wasn’t under the direct influence of all that stress. I hope that continues to happen all throughout quarter 2!!
