Gecko Inc Filming and Plans

Over the past two weeks, my service group and I have been working on creating goals and plans for the next school year as well as finishing up the goals we had set for this year. Last Thursday, on March 6th we finished what we needed to do for this year by uploading our first swimming video to both youtube and Instagram and promoting the video on all of our social media platforms.

Here is the video link

Filming Day:

The week before the school closed and the seniors were supposed to have their exams, gecko inc service members stayed after school to record our second video from OSC’s pool. The second video is a swimming skills video for intermediate swimmers, and so compared to the first beginner video, it was slightly more fun to film as the skills were more technical but still fairly easy. The main skills in the video were:  kicking with a kickboard, kicking on your back, kicking without a kickboard, floating in the deep end, and the basics of freestyle. This video is more about the swimmer learning to trust and depend on themselves to float and be okay in the water (this is important because if there wasn’t trust or dependence on themselves the other option may be to panic). this video is currently being put together with voice recordings/narrations and will hopefully be posted to both Instagram and Youtube within the next week or so.

Learning Outcomes:

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

  • working together as a service group to film
  • working together as new leaders to carry out tasks and goals, as well as plan for the upcoming year

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

  • the purpose of this service group is to help kids and teenagers feel comfortable in the water and learn how to swim. This is very important as Sri Lanka is an island surrounded by water, and yet most people here don’t know how to swim or be safe in the water.

LO7 Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
