On Monday, Aman and I rode our bikes to the ocean. I was excited to get out of the house and see the ocean, but I was scared because I had never really ridden on major roads. I got over being nervous and instead used this energy to bike as fast as I could so that I was off the major roads faster (it was also a good workout). Not only was this ride good for exercise and getting out of the house, but it also helped with my developing sense of direction in Colombo and the roads around my house.
The ride to the water took us about 10ish minutes. These 10 minutes included navigating around several tuks on Galle Road, a few crosswalks, and Aman falling off of his bike (he was okay, it just stung). Finally, we turned onto Marina Drive and biked along the water for about five minutes before getting off of the road and standing at the edge of the mini drop to the ocean. After around 30 minutes we road back home a different way. In total, we biked around 5km and my legs felt it when I got home.
I want to bike to the water more often, as it is a good cardio workout that is also beneficial for swimming, as it helps with endurance, lung control, leg strength, and overall fitness.
Outcomes:
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process – Getting over nerves and trying something new. New biking skills were developed (being able to safely bike on main roads and find my way to the ocean)
The route there: Layards Road –>Macleod Road –>Duplication –>Galle –>side road –>Marina Drive
The route back: marina drive–>side road–>Galle –>Vajira road–> De Fonseka road–> Dickman–> Layards Road
