I did several activities during my stay in the Maldives, I went on a day trip to an island in the atoll of the capital, Kaafu (Kāfu) Atoll, just 16km Northeast of Malé. It was a local island called Himmafushi. The island itself is known for being a very good surf point (Jailsbreak Point). It was off-season when I visited though so you had to wait for high tide (2:00pm) to get some decent waves. Himmafushi’s waters are very shallow meaning that the dredging process is quite simple. One entire side of the island is dubbed as “The Reclaimed Land Side”. So far there isn’t a lot happening on that side except for a few dwellings which have recently been built. Because its barren land it’s a good place to go cycling by. I cycled a lot when on the island, even though it’s quite small getting from one end to the other is quite a walk so I used this as an opportunity to use the bicycles they have available. The island is around 900m x 700m, very very small, so paths are limited, I made the most of what I could though. It was fun to explore the island as I haven’t been on one like this one in a long time.
